- PS4 settings wisdom does not port
| Area | PS4-era intuition | Meridian PS5 reality |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Weak CPUs viable | AVX2 mandatory, no fallback |
| GPU | Renderer toggles | Vulkan 1.3 SPIR-V only |
| Firmware | Loose coupling | Official PUP verified on install |
02Three breaks from the PS4 generation
CPU: Meridian's hot paths emit AVX2 with no fallback — see CPU and AVX2. PS4-era advice about weak CPUs and loose settings does not apply.
GPU: PS5 work arrives as RDNA2 streams and leaves as cached Vulkan SPIR-V pipelines — RDNA2 and SPIR-V. PS4-era renderer toggles have no equivalent here.
Firmware: the official PS5UPDATE.PUP contract via File then Install Firmware is stricter and verified — System software PUP. There is no low-firmware shortcut.
03What transfers and what does not
- Transfers: own your library, dump carefully, warm caches before measuring.
- Does not transfer: CPU settings lore, renderer toggles, or rating expectations from older consoles.
- The 400+ indexed Library is graded on the PS5 method only. Build: Download Meridian.
04Questions
Q.01Can PS4 emulator settings guide Meridian?
No. Different CPU floor, GPU model, and firmware contract. Follow Meridian's Protocol instead.
Q.02Is PS5 emulation harder than PS4?
Different, not strictly harder. The x86-64 CPU helps; the GPU working sets and firmware contract dominate.
Q.03Do PS4 compatibility lists predict PS5?
No. Ratings are per console, per method, per build — see Status definitions.
