02Procedure
Precondition: Meridian installed per Windows installer.
- Open Sony's official system-software page in a browser and download PS5UPDATE.PUP for PlayStation 5. Keep the file exactly as downloaded — do not rename or unpack it.
- In Meridian, choose File then Install Firmware and select the PUP. Wait for the progress bar to complete; interrupting it corrupts the install.
- Open About and confirm the firmware version string is listed. That string is required in every bug report.
03Rules and failures
- Official file only. Custom or patched PUPs are rejected; background is in System software PUP.
- If Install Firmware reports a hash error, re-download — the file was truncated by the browser or a proxy.
- If the menu item is disabled, the launcher needs the runtime from Missing runtime first.
Own your library: firmware enables your owned dumps to boot. It does not add games — 400+ titles are recognized once indexed per Index your library.
04After firmware
Continue to Boot system software to confirm the system menu reaches idle. Fresh to Meridian? Start from Download Meridian and work the Protocol in order.
05Questions
Q.01Where do I get PS5UPDATE.PUP?
From Sony's official system-software page. Meridian never bundles firmware; fetch it yourself and install via File then Install Firmware.
Q.02Can I reuse a PUP from another emulator?
Only if it is the unmodified official file. Renamed or patched copies fail verification — re-download from Sony.
Q.03How do I confirm the install worked?
About must list a firmware version. No version, no boot — repeat the procedure.
