# Missing runtime

Missing DLLs mean the Microsoft VC++ 2015–2022 x64 runtime is absent. Install it from Microsoft.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **Symptom:** Missing VCRUNTIME / MSVCP DLL error on launch
- **Fix:** Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 x64 runtime
- **Source:** Microsoft's official download only
- **Arch:** x64 — the x86 runtime does not fix this

## Procedure

Precondition: Meridian installed, launch fails with a missing VCRUNTIME or MSVCP DLL message.

1. Open Microsoft's official Visual C++ Redistributable page and download the 2015–2022 x64 (64-bit) installer. The x86 build does not fix a 64-bit launcher.

2. Run it, accept the prompt, and reboot if asked. Re-run [Windows installer](/protocol/windows-installer) checks only if launch still fails.

3. Launch Meridian and confirm About opens. Then continue to [Install firmware](/protocol/install-firmware).

## Rules

- Microsoft's official runtime only. Third-party DLL packs and single-DLL downloads cause version skew and are unsupported.

- One install covers all Meridian builds on the machine; reinstall only after a Windows reset.

- If the error persists after the x64 install, the launcher path is corrupt — reinstall from [Download Meridian](/download) to the default path.
