# Lexicon

The vocabulary shelf. Two terms defined precisely; every other page cites them.

## Facts (2026-10-13)

- **Scope:** Terms used across Protocol and Reference
- **Style:** One term, one definition, no synonyms
- **Entries:** PUP, RDNA2/SPIR-V
- **Use:** Cite these; do not redefine inline

## Entries

[System software PUP](/lexicon/system-software-pup) defines the official firmware file: what it is, where it comes from, and how Meridian verifies it.

[RDNA2 and SPIR-V](/lexicon/rdna2-spir-v) defines the GPU translation vocabulary: console architecture in, Vulkan pipelines out.

Both entries assume the free build from [Download Meridian](/download) and owned dumps — own your library, 400+ titles indexed.

## Convention

- PUP always means Sony's official PS5UPDATE.PUP. Patched or partial files are not PUPs in this docs set.

- SPIR-V always means compiled Vulkan pipelines in Meridian's per-title cache.

- Stable, Beta, Test always mean [Status definitions](/compat/status-definitions) — never colloquial stability.

## FAQ

### Why does Meridian define so few terms?

Few terms carry the whole docs set. Defining two precisely beats glossing twenty loosely.

### Where are Stable/Beta/Test defined?

In [Status definitions](/compat/status-definitions), cited — not duplicated — from here.

### Can a PUP be modified?

Not for Meridian. Verification rejects anything but the official file — see the PUP entry.
